As a part of the company's strong focus on distribution and channel network, Canon has 281 primary channel partners, 2 Level IV Master Service Centres, 32 canon care centers, over 100 authorized service centers & over 4000 secondary partners including 50 flagship retail points in 300 towns in India . Overall Canon's presence i s expand ing continuously and is expected to increase it to 6000 by December 2008.

In 2007 Canon celebrated its 10 th Anniversary of operations in India . As a part of these celebrations Canon worked on strengthening its brand in the country and 'Indianising' the brand, which saw Canon embarking on many innovative and exciting programs to engage with customers, channel partners and employees. Canon embarked on the strategy of city focused campaigns. Towards that in the beginning of the year a program called ' Aamchi Mumbai' was launched in Mumbai with integrated approach of Above the line and Below the line aggressive marketing activities. Re-enforcing focus on Delhi , Canon launched specific marketing initiative called 'Hamaari Delhi' . The company also launched campaigns designed to strengthen the Canon brand appeal using Sachin Tendulkar and rolled out new marketing campaigns customized for specific regions. These initiatives included regionalizing the campaign message and timing to cater to regional seasons like Onam in Kerala, Ganesh chaturthi in Mumbai, Durga Puja in Kolkata and Diwali in the rest of the country etc.

On the service front, Canon will be expanding its Master Service Centre to Bangalore by March 2008. Canon currently has two Canon owned Level 4 camera repair and service centres designed on international standards in Mumbai and Gurgaon to provide users of Canon digital cameras, DVs, DSLRs and lenses effective after sales and support. Over the course of next year the company will be expanding these Master Service Centres to more cities such as Kolkata to further strengthen the service support for Professional customers. For its employees, the company will be organizing a number of different motivational programs and will be strengthening its internal communication programs along with giving away special anniversary momentos. 'People engagement' will be the theme through 2008. Canon had an organizational strength of 400 employees in 2006. The number has expanded by 30% to 520 as of now. The company has plans to expand the organization size to over 700 by 2008 end. The company will be undertaking a major recruitment drive to tap skilled and trained workforce to undertake key job roles and responsibilities in the organization. The infrastructure in terms of office space will also see major growth and we are looking at increasing the size of our offices by four fold across all branch locations. Canon India will be enhancing its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

The focus in 2008 would also be on more initiatives towards channel relationship building, focused and localized advertising and promotion, participation in all major exhibitions, conducting road shows and trainings which would deliver us higher market shares and better partner relationships.Canon presently has over 145 products offerings in India . Besides achieving No.1 market share in most product categories, we want to demonstrate that our people can reach the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction.

As part of its efforts to improve it's after sales service and customer support in smaller towns, canon has set up 32 Canon Care Centre which are exclusive franchisee service centers providing single point access to customers for all their service needs for any product. The Canon Care Centre has been devised to ensure faster response, enhance personalized services and provide access to build in knowledge base. The centres are equipped with trained service engineer to handle repairs and queries.

These exclusive centres provide single face/single point of contact for Canon consumer products (Printers, Scanners etc) & front end for the Canon camera products. These centers consumables & accessories. The Canon Care Centres enable quick response, on time and on site service alongwith value added service to the customer. There are 32 such Care Centres across the country including metros and other cities such as Udaipur , Chandigarh , Indore , Surat , Cochin , Hyderabad , Patna , Bhubaneshwar and Ranchi . This will provide an added impetus to our drive towards B&C class cities.

In addition to its digital imaging business, Canon India has a Software Development Centre located in Gurgaon. Set up in the middle of 1999, the Canon Software Development Centre is one of the six such cutting edge technology centres established by Canon Inc. globally. It is also Canon's latest R&D Center to be set up outside Japan . It is ISO 9001:2000 certified and in April 2004 has achieved the CMM level 3 status. The center develops document management software, including some general-purpose tools for Canon Inc. The high-tech Digital Technology Lab at this centre, houses hardware to simulate network environment scenarios and is also used to trouble-shoot potential stress points in networking application situations.
